What is Sign Foam?

Sign Foam is a man-made high density urathane with superior strength characteristics as well as superior weather handling properties.  With texture and painting the look and feel is comparable to that of Redwood.

Sign Foam vs. Redwood --

Both materials handle weathering well, though the wood will eventually rot, Sign Foam will not. The density of the wood is a slightly greater but both can be blasted with beautiful results.  Being in the sign industry for over 35 years our company has gained significant experience using both materials, enabling us to make the best decision for the right material for each application, in order to produce the best product.  Often our material of choice is Sign Foam.

A few reasons why our company chooses Sign Foam over
Redwood--

1.      Sign Foam will not warp, crack, split, rot or stain from the inside out.  After a period of time, with even the best treatment, Redwood will, in time, do all of these.

2.      Sign Foam does not need laminating, thus insuring a consistent grain or stucco blast.  Redwood must be laminated together in order to achieve enough thickness, thus resulting in a finished blast that is not always consistent.

3.      Finished Sign Foam signs are usually lighter in weight than Redwood, which can make wall mounting less complicated.

4.      Sign Foam has closed cells that keep moisture from penetrating into the material insuring excellent qualities for exterior applications.  Redwood, on the other hand, allows moisture to penetrate into the wood, which causes warping, cracking and staining.

5.      Sign Foam is readily available and causes no harm to the environment.  Clear quality Redwood is becoming difficult to find due to the need to be cut from the older growth trees.  In turn, using Sign Foam helps save our old growth forests for all to enjoy.

We offer both materials, but feel Sign Foam is far superior to Redwood for all the forgoing reasons.
